Hangover 5 Race report from Gerald

On the mildest New Year’s day on record, in wonderful contrast to the cold of two years ago, 350 runners from over West Sussex converged on Worthing for the Hangover Five mile race.

We started off near the Hill Barn Golf Course on the north side of Worthing, up to the Cissbury Ring (Iron Age fort) then down again. More than enough to blow away any hangover.

I was keen to give it a go after my knee replacement last August so joined the good humoured team of 13 Flyers.

On the front row was James Baker, now coming up to a remarkable record of 1,000 race wins over 25 years, possibly not to be beaten for another 25, 50 or even 75 years.

Our star runner Liam Briscoe finished 4th, with Ed Warner and Julian Pringle also finishing well.
