On Wednesday July 5th the Fittleworth Flyers will run in the Roundhill Romp from Steyning. This a friendly, well organised race starting in the centre of Steyning (yes, they close the High Street for us runners). We run down the Street, up Mousehole Lane, past Sally Gunnell’s old house (hoping for some inspiration!) and by the side of Wiston House – a large house in a brilliant landscape. We are climbing all the time, (no shame in walking), and reach the top of the Downs where we join the South Downs Way. Two miles of flatness and then drop down on some narrow and some wide paths – local knowledge a help here. For the last mile I try not to tumble as the steepness of the descent is very tempting to go too fast. We finish on the Steyning Playing Field. Tip: Arrive early for somewhere to park.
The following Wednesday (July 12) we are at Littlehampton for their Beach Run at 7.30pm . The Race organiser pick the day when the tide is out! Remember running on the shore as a kid? This is just as fun, even though more serious and longer (five miles). There is a great Juniors Race before the Adults one.
On Sunday July 23rd we have the Seven Stiles at Henfield. All our races with times are on our website.
Training continues in lovely Petworth Park on an alternate Tuesday evening; the other Tuesday at Kithurst Hill car park on top of the Downs above Storrington. Can be barmy on a Summers evening.
